Hospitalist A admits a patient and orders advanced imaging, and comprehensive labs just as they set sail on their Caribbean vacation.

Hospitalist B comes in the next day- tasked with reviewing all of the labs and imaging as well as discussing the findings with the patient and family.

In the hospitalist eyes- the insult to injury is they don't get credit for all of this work in the MDM of the encounter per the Expansion of 2021 Documentation Guidelines as it same service/ same Tax ID.

This is one example of problematic areas that, as auditors, we will need to educate, and work with our providers on regarding the Expanded Guidelines.
